Pardubice [CZ] - Tender for 3 new trolleybuses
J. Lehmann - 11.05.15
On 26 March 2015, the municipal operator DPMP published a tender for 3 new 12 m long, low-floor trolleybuses. The delivery is expected to take place 8 months after signing of the contract. With this latest acquisition, the gradual process of fleet modernization is to be continued and more of the still 14 operational Skoda 14Tr units to be replaced. From these older trolleybuses, unit 375 has already been converted to a staff vehicle and 384 was recently mothballed after sustaining damage to one of its axles.
As of 1 April 2015, trolleybuses can once again run on the main avenue Trida Miru, which had been closed to traffic since March 2014, coinciding with its reconstruction as a pedestrian zone. As part of a seasonal timetable re-adjustment on 1 April 2015, only the lines 4, 21 and 27 now run through part of this redeveloped boulevard, which does include one dedicated bus lane. Lines 21 and 27 only operate an infrequent 60-minute headway during peak traffic in the early morning and late afternoon, while line 4 runs every 30 minutes through Trida Miru but uses the balloon loop terminus at Pernerova street.
All of the other local lines that run on a more frequent basis are purposefully kept away from the pedestrian zone and thus share the busy Sukova avenue with other traffic. This includes line 1 (12 or 15-minute headway), line 2 (15-min), line 5 (10 or 15-min), line 11 (30-min) and line 13 (10 or 15-min pattern).
To celebrate the 65th anniversary of DPMP, a special day of open doors was held on Saturday 16 May 2015. The program included free access to the trolleybus depot as well as numerous public rides on historic vehicles.
On 3. October 2014, the Skoda 14Tr trolleybus 384 is seen in revenue service on line 1 in Pardubice, while running down the busy Sukova trida. Since 19 February 2015, this vehicle has been withdrawn due to damages to its rear axle. Photo: J. Lehmann
