Solingen [DE] - Order for 15 new Hess/Vossloh-Kiepe articulated trolleybuses is now confirmed
J. Lehmann - 13.09.07
Stadtwerke Solingen (SWS) has received permission to place an order valued at 10.5 million euro for 15 articulated trolleybuses after the SWS Supervisory Board approved the 2007/2008 business plan last Wednesday in which the budget for the purchase of the trolleybuses is contained.
A call for tender for 15 articulated trolleybuses was published at the end of March 2007 and six submissions were received before the deadline. After July 2007 three of the companies were invited to take part in technical and commercial discussions. On the basis of representing the best-value offer, the order was placed with Hess from Switzerland to supply vehicles fitted with electrical equipment from Vossloh Kiepe.
The specification in the tender called for the supply of three-axle, low-floor articulated trolleybuses with four wheel drive and a diesel electric booster. Two pre-production vehicles are to be supplied by October 2008 and the remainder will be delivered at a rate of two vehicles per month starting six months after the supply of the first two.
