trolley:firmen - Van Hool N.V.: Prototype of the ExquiCity exhibited at Kortrijk
J. Lehmann - 31.10.11
Van Hool presented the first prototype of the ExquiCity at the end of October 2011 at the Bus World exhibition in Kortrijk. The ExquiCity provides a basis (in either an 18m or 24m version) for the use of different environmentally-friendly propulsion systems whether as trolleybuses, hybrid buses, fuel cells or batteries. The idea of its so-called Multi-Propulsion Platform is to combine the flexibility of a bus with the efficiency of a tram. So far 39 units of the ExquiCity have been ordered: 9 units as 18m trolleybuses for Parma and 27 units as double articulated hybrid buses for the French city of Metz. Three more double articulated have been ordered by TMB in Barcelona. These last will be delivered at the start of 2012. Before that the buses for Metz will begin a one year test programme from early in 2012. The delivery of the nine trolleybuses for Parma is expected in mid-2012. The electric traction package is being provided by Vossloh Kiepe.
Before the delivery to Parma, Van Hool will deliver a follow-on order to Milan for 15 articulated AG300T trolleybuses, the first five of which will be delivered at the end of 2011. After that an additional articulated trolleybus will be delivered to Rimini and finally five standard 12m A330T trolleybuses will be delivered to Chieti.
