Arnhem [NL] - Extension of Trolleybus Route 2 Approved
J. Lehmann - 24.02.14
On 31 January 2014 the city council in Arnhem approved the proposal of the operator Hermes, to extend route 2 to De Laar Oost. Hermes, a subsidiary of Connexxion operates the trolleybus and bus routes in the Stadsregio Arnhem Nijmegen under the name Breng under a 10 year concession (2012-2022). The intention is to begin operation of the extended trolleybus route 2 at the timetable change in late 2014. The Stadsregio Arnhem-Nijmegen will assume a large part of the infrastructure costs. The extension is intended to replace the bus route 4, which currently runs at 15-minute intervals from the station to Brabantweg and then on to Elsweide or to the development area of Schuytgraf. The extension of route 2, which is currently operates with one vehicle between the station and Hoogkamp at 30-minute intervals, will bring a direct connection to the east of the city centre for passengers from the northern parts of the city as well as from Arnhem south.
The number of trolleybuses remains at 40. Currently there are 36 runs on the six trolleybus routes (1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7). This means that standard gas buses are often used on the trolleybus routes.
