Esslingen [DE] - Ten Year Transport Award

The city of Esslingen intends, as contracting authority, to make a direct award to the SVE of the10-year service contract covering a bundle of urban routes. A corresponding announcement was published in the European Official Journal on 1.3.2014. in addition to trolleybus routes 101 and 118 bus router 102-105, 108-113, 115, 132, 138 are to be included in the bundle of routes. The term of the direct award will begin on 1.6.2014, but bus routes 109 and 113 and 132 will only be included after expiry of their concessions after the 31.12.2015 and 30.06.2018 respectively. The trolleybus routes are included in the direct award, although their concessions still run until 7.7.2024.
The deadline for the tender (published in December 2013) for two electric hybrid buses with high-performance energy storage devices that can be charged driving on the existing overhead expired in February 2014. An award is expected by 01.09.2014 following contract negotiations. The first finished vehicle is expected to be presented in September 2015, with entry into service expected by January 2016.
Pending the completion of the renovation work at Esslingen station trolleybus route 118 is operated by buses. DB Citaro articulated buses borrowed from the SBB in Stuttgart (S-SB 7042 and S-SB 7045) have been used here since mid-2013. They were acquired in January by the SVE and given fleet numbers 132 and 133. In February 2014 EVO bus also delivered the three Citaro articulated buses on order, which received fleet numbers 129-131.
